Changes in procedures for lost / stolen passports
With a view to preventing identity theft and the circulation of falsified passports, additional safeguards are being introduced into the passport application procedure for adult first time applicants and for those adults seeking to replace a lost/stolen passport. With effect from 17 January 2010, adult applicants in these categories will be required to submit the following additional evidence in support of their passport application:
- a completed and suitably witnessed passport application form and four photographs, two of which must be signed and stamped by one of a police officer, member of the clergy, medical doctor, lawyer, bank manager / assistant manager, notary public, school principal / vice-principal, accountant
- the long form birth certificate of the applicant and a civil marriage certificate, if appropriate, and evidence of entitlement to Irish citizenship ,where applicable;
It should be noted that it will not be possible to expedite any application in this category.
Embassy website
The Embassy’s website (www.embassyofireland.ae) is now fully operational. The website includes details on how to contact the Embassy, information on passport and consular services and information on Ireland.
The website also has an Irish Community webpage with contact details for the different groups across the Gulf.

Abu Dhabi Visa Office
The Abu Dhabi Visa Office is now operational and is being managed by Mr. Neil Shannon. Visa required nationals living in the UAE can now apply at either the Abu Dhabi Visa Office, or the Dubai Visa Office. Those applying from Kuwait and Qatar should send their applications to the Abu Dhabi Visa Office only.
All requirements in relation to visa applications are available on the Embassy’s website under “Visa Office”.
Rendezvous353.com
On 25 November Rendezvous353.com (www.Rendezvous353.com) was launched in the UK. Rendezvous353.com is a new social networking site directly aimed at linking Irish and Irish connected people living outside Ireland. The site is intended to facilitate the sharing and of knowledge, opportunities and provide a support as well as a social network to the Irish abroad.
Please note that the site is not in receipt of any funding from the Department and is not a part of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.

Dear All,
From today, Sunday 9 May, the Embassy of Ireland in Abu Dhabi will be processing passport applications for both normal and emergency passports. The processing time for full passports is currently approximately six to eight weeks.
Passport application forms are available for collection from the Embassy in Abu Dhabi, from the Irish Facilitation Visa Office in Dubai and from DHL offices in the region.

Dear all,
I am delighted to inform you that today the Ambassador of Ireland, Ciarán Madden, presented letters of credence to the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, in Doha.
As a result of this the Embassy of Ireland in Abu Dhabi, UAE, will now be accredited to the State of Qatar. Consular services for Irish citizens in the State of Qatar will be provided by Embassy Abu Dhabi with the exception of passports which should be directed to the Embassy in Riyadh until further notice.

To help the Embassy provide consular services to the Irish community in the State of Qatar we are currently drawing up an up-to-date registration list of Irish nationals living in Qatar. Irish citizens living overseas are encouraged to register their contact details with their local Embassy. Registration is voluntary. The information submitted upon registration will be held by the Irish Embassy in Abu Dhabi. The only purpose for which this information will be held or used will be for the Embassy to contact you, if necessary and/or requested to do so by your immediate family, in the event of an emergency such as a natural disaster, civil unrest or a family crisis. The Irish Embassy in Abu Dhabi as part of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs is a registered data controller under the Data Protection Acts.
